Remembering the Elyria Public Library Foundation in Your Will

There are several ways to remember the Foundation in your will. The following examples are ways to ensure your gift will be made as you wish.

Once all specific bequests have been listed in your will, you may leave the remainder of your estate:

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Foundation for the Elyria Public Library System all (or %) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate as an unrestricted gift” (or “to be used for [name of specific Endowment Fund added here”].

A general or specific bequest allows a specific piece of property (stocks, bonds, real estate), an amount of money, or a percentage of your estate to be given:

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Foundation for the Elyria Public Library System the sum of $_______ (or describe the real or personal property) as an unrestricted gift” (or “to be used for [name of specific Endowment Fund added here”].

You may also wish to consider a contingent bequest, which is a distribution from your estate, if, and only if, one or more of your named beneficiaries does not survive you:

“I give the residue of my estate to my brother (John). If my brother (John) does not survive me, I give the residue of my estate to the Foundation for the Elyria Public Library System as an unrestricted gift” (or “to be used for [name of specific Endowment Fund added here”].
