The staff of the Elyria Public Library System would like to take this opportunity to thank our patrons and supporters for the work you've done to help save Ohio's public libraries. Following the Governor's announcement last Friday to slash the state's funding of public libraries,  libraries throughout the state performed a phenomenal amount of work to mobilize tens of thousands of library supporters. Many legislators reported receiving more than 10,000 e-messages and telephone calls from library supporters in just one 24-hour period. The Governor's e-mail and phone lines were shut down at many points throughout the week due to the volume of incoming messages. The effort to save Ohio libraries was the lead story in every media market across the entire state for most of the week. Materials were distributed, door-to-door campaigns were held, e-mails were sent to family and friends, and we witnessed the powerful impact of social network sites, bulletin boards, blogs, and Twitter.

The library voice has been heard - loud and proud. And we know this because legislators are supporting public libraries. Many members of the General Assembly have issued statements in our support.

Now, is the time to say thanks to our representatives for agreeing to do what they can to honor the legislature's commitment to support public libraries with 2.22% of the state's tax revenue.

According to recent reports, the Conference Committee intends to discuss amendments to the budget bill over the weekend and have the budget ready for vote on Monday, June 29.

Watch the Elyria Public Library’s (www.elyrialibrary.org) website for updates about the status of the state budget and its impact on the Elyria Public Library System.

Thank you again for your tireless work over the past week. The Elyria Public Library System is very proud of our community for its support.
